Home (2014)

"A familiar word in an unfamiliar context, what does “Home” mean to you?” |
Home (2014) is a poignant take on the hidden traces of invisible people in my society. Daunted by the homeless and socio-polarization in our affluent society, I sought to understand the derelict conditions of the homes, through a personal photography project. Having spent a few days to visit and observe the one-room flats well-hidden amongst the urban cityscape, I've come to witness many that live on the streets, discarded cardboard pieces, and small cubicles in one-room flats. It is hard to imagine ourselves living in the confined cubicles, but one merely needs to smell the pungent odor from the flat to empathize.

CHINESE INK
"Drifting, spirited away" |
灵 (2015) echoes the spirit of a young girl. Although the figure can be identified in form, the work’s formal fluid treatment and charged expressions evoke the idea and feelings of radical change in a human being, a constant that remains inevitable, vulnerable and ephemeral.

BALLPOINT INK
"She looks afar |
Observation (2014) was created to seek out the hidden. The choice of ballpoint-pen ink was to illustrate a clinical touch to the raw issue of ageing and neglect. Ball-point ink fades if exposed to light and this transient nature surfaces the loneliness and fragility of the old, which combines the concept of archival and the vulnerability of humans when confronted with the inevitability of ageing.
