Bind
Archival Project and Interactive Installation
Bind is a participatory archival project where we learn to bind stories of others and our own.
Through combining traditional bookbinding techniques with socially-engaged pedagogy, the project aims to build trust, intimacy and solidarity through the dual meaning of binding. Participants enter a shared space to type, tell and bind stories, while reflecting on what it takes to receive and give care. While unpicking the performative gesture of needlework, the calming effects relieve inner turmoil, expression and healing - an experimental approach to storytelling, thinking through what it means to care, practice care, to be cared for, to be caring and be a carer. Through performing and reflecting these acts of care central to our everyday lives, each story is manually typed and handbound with each participant. With contributions and collaborations with different collectives and groups, the project is born to honour the stories, and those who tell them to heal, restore and cultivate profound intimacy. |
"A moving, deconstructed book telling the story of these stories."
