LOGO DESIGN
Passerby Projects - Theatre Group
"The logo design for Passerby Projects is an abstracted rendering of two hands connecting, to communicate the sensual proximity and physical intimacy through body language. As I approached this, I drafted from a gesture figurative drawing to capture the body language and also the immediacy and fluidity of theatre. I have always felt that theatre often beautifully facilitates the study of humans in motion and captures the essence of being human in the most distilled form. Body language is also highly relatable as it is the key to modern communication and relationships. Eventually, I abstracted the piece to capture the unconventionality that unorthodox theatre experience Passerby Projects aims to achieve. With the little hints and splashes of midnight blue, the piece seeks to express the trust, honesty, and truth in communication. The form, created by a mess of lines and splashes, aims to encapsulate the complexity and essence of Sonder – the fleeting, transient yet strong emotion of seeing a passerby, knowing that there is more to them, but yet conflicted with our ignorance to their stories. Personally, I find that this is what makes theatre truly captivating, for it is often universal, but at the same time relatable on a personal level. As a non-threatening and nostalgic color, I thought midnight blue could also well express the idea of a safe space that Passerby Projects offers. A safe space and place where strangers can readily come together to build strong trusting relationships through theatre - somewhere that lives the past, relating everything in the present and the future to experiences in the past.
